Cheese and olives

Dad says he's getting tired of mozzarella and cheddar cheese and wants to try some other cheeses with more flavor.  Since I don't eat cheese myself, I can't help him much.  Do any of you have a type of cheese you like and can recommend he try?

Also, I feel the same way about olives.  There's not much flavor to black olives,  and I don't care much for green olives.  I do like kalamata olives, but I don't want to get into a rut.  Can any of you recommend some different types of tasty olives for us to try?

Thanks for adding more zing to our days!

  1. we like sharp provolone, camembert (heat it up then dip bread in it), asiago, havarti. are there any fancy grocery stores that give samples or have tastings? whole foods usually has lots of yummy cheese and usually has a sample or two out. or you could come out here and we'll go visit the tillamook factory on the coast - tons of free samples! haha mmmmm.
as far as olives, great question. does wheatsfield have some in their deli section? maybe you could just try a few of each? let me know if you find some good ones. i love olives and cheese!

  2. I love cheese. I love fresh cheese. I also love spicy jack cheese, which I think Dad would like (not the actual name, but you know, like pepperjack). I love the cheddar that's white in a block (fancy). I love cheese that have herbs (like basil) in it. Just go grab some at the deli counter and if Dad doesn't like them I'm sure you could off-load them on some of your children :) Also, let me know if you find a good olive. I like black, hate green and am willing to try others. Fun!
